Serious Incident at Manchester Central Mosque during Ramadan Prayers

Serious Incident at Manchester Central

Mosque During Ramadan prayers

Dr. Mozammel Haque

The Sky News reported on Thursday, 26 February 2026 under the caption: Starmer concerned after ‘serious incident ‘ at Manchester mosque. A man was arrested after allegedly entering a mosque during Ramadan prayers carrying several weapons, including an axe.

“A man has been arrested after allegedly entering a mosque in Manchester with an axe in his bag during Ramadan prayers, The Sky has reported and added, “The suspect, a white man in his 50s, went into Manchester Central Mosque in the Victoria Park area around 8.30pm on Tuesday, police said.”

It is also reported, “He was wearing hi-vis clothing and was said to have had an axe, a knife and a hammer with him. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said no one was injured and no threats were made.”

Earlier, on Wednesday, 25 February, 2026,  I received a message in my whatsapp from Mr. Afzal Khan, MP., Member of the British Parliament, mentioning about this incident that occurred at Manchester Central Mosque. He wrote:

“I am deeply concerned about the incident that occurred at Manchester Central Mosque last night, whereby two individuals entered the mosque with weapons.

Thankfully, everyone is safe, no one is hurt, and greater Manchester Police have arrested one of the suspects.

I’m in touch with the mosque leadership, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, and the Prime Minister about this incident.

Just this week, the chancellor and Home Secretary announced more funding for protecting mosques, and this incident demonstrates once again why this funding is so vital.

This is the consequence of far-right politicians scapegoating Muslims. This is Islamophobia, plain and simple.”

Rt. Hon. Afzal Khan also sent me the response of the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Sir Keir Starmer, M.P. The British Prime Minister took immediate action and said:

“I am concerned to hear of the incident at Manchester Central Mosque last night. I know this will be worrying for Muslim communities, especially during Ramadan, a time of peace and reflection.

"My thanks go to the volunteers and emergency services for their quick response.

"We have provided up to £40 million funding for additional security at mosques, Muslim schools and community centres, and will continue to act to ensure communities are able to live without fear.”
