Khutbah at Masjid al-Haram on Injustice by Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais

 Khutbah at Masjid al-Haram

On Injustice by

Sheikh Dr Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais

Dr. Mozammel Haque

The Head of the Presidency of Haramain Sheikh Dr Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, Imam of Masjid Al-Haram Makkah Al-Mukarramah delivered Khutbah at Masjid Al-Haram  on Injustice on Friday, the 6th of Rajab 1447H corresponding to 26 December 2025 .

While delivering his Khutbah Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais said, “O People of Iman, from that which people are living through today is deep immersion in material pursuits, the overpowering dominance of temptations, and the loud noise that overwhelms clear and illuminating meaning.

He also mentioned, “Furthermore, amid the consequences of unsound engagements with foundational principles, spread of disagreements and lack of fairness in dispute and conflict, there emerges a pressing need to attend to the rights of people, and free oneself from injustices committed against them.”

Imam Sheikh  Abdur Rahman Al-Sudais said, “Indeed, injustice is darkness upon darkness. That is why the Lord of the Heaven and the Earth warned against it when HE said, “O My servants, I have certainly forbidden oppression for Myself and have made it forbidden amongst you, so do not oppress one another.” This was reported by Muslim. HE - the Majestic and Most High - also stated, (so woe to those who commit injustice, from the punishment of a painful Day.)) [43:65].

Sheikh  Dr Abdur Rahman Al-Sudais said; “Brothers and sisters in Islam, indeed, among the most despicable forms of oppression is injustice perpetrated against other servants of Allah. It is a path strewn with bloody thorns, one that drags its perpetrators to Hellfire. How often has falsehood been upheld as truth, true rights dismissed, and harm inflicted such that it affects the lives, wealth and honour of others.”

Imam Sheikh Dr Al-Sudais continued, “in light of this, it has been authentically reported that the Prophet ( May Allah’s Salah and Salam be upon him) said; “Your lives, wealth, and honour are inviolable to one another just as the sanctity of this day of yours, in this month of yours in this land of yours.”

“Also, Abu Hurayrah (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (May Allah’s Salah and Salam be upon him) said; “Do you know which person is bankrupt?” They replied, “Messenger of Allah, the bankrupt person among us is someone who has no money or property.” The Messenger of Allah then said, “The bankrupt person among my Ummah is the one who will come forth on the Day of Resurrection with their prayers, fasting, and charity. However, they will come forth having reviled certain people, wrongfully accused others, usurped the property of others, shed the blood of others, and beaten others. They will be seated and each victim will take some of their righteous deeds and retribution. If their righteous deeds finish before all their wrongdoings has been settled, the sins of the victims will be taken and cast upon them, then they will be cast into the Hellfire.” This was reported by Muslim.”

Imam of the Masjid Al-Haram Sheikh Al-Sudais said in his Khutbah, “Such a servant comes forth with prayer, charity, and fasting, in other words, having fulfilled the pillars of Islam - and with good deeds as vast as mountains; believing this good deeds will save them, yet they also come burdened with injustices committed against other servants of Allah that ultimately lead them to the Hellfire. Notice that sins such as the consumption of alcohol are not mentioned here, despite the fact that it is a grave and major sin. Its perpetrator remains under Allah’s Will whether He will forgive them or punish them.”

 PERSONAL RIGHTS.

Sheikh Dr Al-Sudais said, “However, injustices connected with the rights of people are of a different nature, they must be repaid and rectified. This is because they are specific, personal rights. The rights of the servants are founded upon requital and restitution, not upon pardon and leniency. For this reason, Sufyan Ath-Thawri ( May Allah have mercy upon him) said; “That you meet Allah with seventy sins between you and Him is lighter for you than meeting Him with a single sin between you and the servants.””

Additionally, Ibn Al-Qayyum (May Allah have mercy upon him) eloquently described such people who are diligent in upholding the rights of Allah when he said you may find among the righteous those who rarely even miss a prayer, fasting, or an act of dhikr, yet they tear apart the honour of people. He further explained that oppression is recorded  in three registers:

 “A register from which Allah forgives nothing and that is Shirk;

“A register from which Allah leaves nothing unaccounted for and that is injustices people committed against one another; and

“A register which Allah does not greatly concern Himself with, and that is the injustice a servant commits against themselves, between them and their Lord.”

Sheikh Dr Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais said: “Brothers and sisters in Iman, the noble Prophet (May Allah’s Salah and Salam be upon him) has indeed commanded us to free ourselves from injustice whilst we are still in this worldly life, before having to stand before the Lord of all creation. In support of this, Abu Hurayrah (May Allah be pleased with him) said, “the Messenger of Allah (May Allah’s Salah and Salam be upon him) said, “If someone wronged anyone regarding their honour or property, they must seek their pardon today before the time comes when no dinar or dirham will avail anyone. At that time, if a person has any righteous deeds, others will take a share in proportion to the wrong they did them. If they have no righteous deeds, they will take from the sins of others and have to bear those themselves.” This is reported by Al-Bukhari.

He (May Allah’s Salah and Salam be upon him) stated, “Whoever makes a false accusation against a person of Iman will be made by Allah to dwell in the filthy fluid and pus flowing from the inhabitants of the Hellfire until they retract their statement.” This was reported by Abu Dawud with an authentic chain of narration.”

Sheikh Dr Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais said, ”Therefore, O servants of Allah, be cautious and wary of transgressing against the rights of others and causing them harm. Seek pardon from everyone whose rights you have disregarded before a day when no dinar nor dirham will be of any benefit for verily, this matter is severely dangerous.”

Dr. al-Sudais  said, “We will proceed to come before the Recompenser on the Day of Judgement, when all disputes will be gathered before Allah. Indeed, the Prophet ( May Allah’s Salah and Salam be upon him) - whose supplication is answered. And never rejected -  invoked Allah’s mercy for those who hasten to absolve themselves of wrongdoing against another person, lest the good deeds be taken from them on the Day of Resurrection.”

Sheikh Dr Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais mentioned, “In support of this, Abu Hurayrah ( May Allah be pleased with him) said, “The Messenger Of Allah (May Allah’s Salah And Salam be upon him) said, “Whoever has wronged another person, in their honour or wealth must seek pardon and absolve themselves from this before being taken by death; where no dinar nor dirham will be of any benefit.” This is reported by At-Tirmidhi.””

Dr. al-Sudais  said,”It is sufficient as a means of repulsion and a deterrent for oppressors that injustice has been associated with kufr in the Qur’an. Among the injustices that have raised their heads and show their horns in this age of technology are those propagated  through certain social media platforms - spread by those who infiltrate the minds of people and instigate ideological terrorism - as well as indulgence in backbiting, gossip, lying and slander. These are among the clearest, greatest, darkest, and most disgraceful forms of injustice. It is incumbent upon the perpetrator of these acts to seek pardon and absolution before a day where no dinar nor dirham will be of any benefit.”

“Therefore, observe Taqwa of Allah  - O servants of Allah - and perform righteous actions before it is too late to absolve oneself from the injustices and harms done to others. Allah said, ((People who harm the men and women who have Iman, when they are innocent of any wrongdoing, shall bear the burden of falsehood and tremendous sin.)) [33:58].

Imam al-Sudais said, “May Allah make the two revelations sources of blessings for me and you all and allow us to glean benefit from the guidance of the best of creation. I say this much and I beseech Allah to forgive myself, you and all Muslims from every sin. Therefore, seek His forgiveness and repent to Him for verily He is Oft-Forbearing, Oft-Forgiving.”

MONTH OF RAJAB

Imam of the Masjid Al-Haram Dr al-Sudais said, “ O people of Iman, as we enter the beginning of the sacred month of Rajab, hold firmly to the guidance of your Prophet ( May Allah’s Salah and Salam be upon him) and to the path of the best and most virtuous generations.”

He continued, “Beware of innovations and newly invented matters in Islam and know that there is nothing authentically established from the Prophet (May Allah’s Salah and Salam be upon him) that specifies any particular virtue in this month. All reports circulated regarding particular righteous deeds being recommended in this month are weak or fabricated as confirmed by the people of knowledge who have checked its authenticity.”

PALESTINE CAUSE

Referring to the Palestine issue, imam of the Masjid Al-Haram said: “Brothers and sisters in Iman, in this period towards the end of time widespread injustices are spread. It is what some weak and downtrodden people live through of collective oppression, such as the Palestinian people and those living around Al-Masjid al-Aqsa. They suffer from being under siege, facing destruction; displacement, killing, forced migration, and abuse at the hands of the brutal Zionist enemy - especially as the harsh winter season has set upon them, biting them with its bitter cold.”

Sheikh Dr Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais prayed in his Khutbah saying, “We ask Allah to lift the oppression from the weak and downtrodden everywhere and to envelop them in the warm of HIS Kindness and Mercy.”

Imam of the Masjid Al-Haram Sheikh Al-Sudais mentioned in his Khutbah, “Here, we commend the firm and honourable stance of our beloved country - the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia - towards the Palestinian cause and the sacred Islamic sites. May Allah protect the Kingdom and the Muslim lands all over the world from the east to the west from every harm and evil; thwart the plots of the plotters and the aggression of the aggressors. Indeed, HE is All-Hearing, One Who responds supplications.”

FULL KHUTBAH AT MASJID AL-HARAM ON INJUSTICE

By SHEIKH DR ABDUL RAHMAN AL_SUDAIS

Following is the Full Khutbah at the Masjid al-Haram by Sheikh Dr Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais on Injustice  on Friday, the 6th of Rajab 1447H corresponding to 26 December 2025 .

I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah Alone, without any partner. He has chosen this Ummah through its religion and its legislation, and He has guided it to – noble and wondrous path by which injustice is left behind. I further bear witness that our Prophet Muhamad is Allah’s worshipping servant and Messenger who came with guidance and light, in truth that is complete and all-encompassing. May the Salah and Salam of my Lord be upon him, his Family and his Companions, the generation who succeeded them and all those who follow them in righteousness until the Day when all Creations is resurrected. O Possessor of all loftiness, grant them salam whose scent-rich in fragrance and far-reaching.

Observe Taqwa of Allah – O servants of Allah – and give thanks to HIM for having guided you to Islam, for it is the religion of noble virtues and exalted praises. Thus take the path that leads to your Lord. Seek no guidance except Taqwa. Do not incline to this world. Rather, place your reliance upon your Lord and make Him your guardian.

O People of Iman, from that which people are living through today is deep immersion in material pursuits, the overpowering dominance of temptations, and the loud noise that overwhelms clear and illuminating meaning.

Furthermore, amid the consequences of unsound engagements with foundational principles, spread of disagreements and lack of fairness in dispute and conflict, there emerges a pressing need to attend to the rights of people, and free oneself from injustices committed against them.

The problem is far deeper than trivial disagreements. It is the weakening of religious restraint, an intellectual void, social fragmentation, and absence of values and purpose. These conditions produce individuals whose only concern is to pursue others’ faults instead of engaging in development and reform.

From here arises the need to renew the reminder of a comprehensive piece of advice – one that addresses the void at its roots, restores the standing of high values and the influence of inspiring role models, and affirms the importance of clarity of purpose, personal balance, and social cohesion. Doing so with due regard for sound Islamic principles and the principles of psychological and social development, so that we may strengthen the message of awareness and firmly establish the impact of sound community formation.

Do not be quick to wrong anyone with injustice. For injustice has a destructive and painful end. Al-Imam al-Mawardi (may Allah have mercy upon him) said, “The factors that prevent a person from committing injustice are limited to four: Common sense, adherence to Islam that restricts, authority that deters or an incapacity that hinders. For this reason, the Qur’an and the Sunnah contain numerous texts that strongly condemn injustice and those who commit it, for injustice is the root of every evil.

Indeed, injustice is darkness upon darkness.

Brothers and sisters in Islam, indeed, among the most despicable forms of oppression is injustice perpetrated against other servants of Allah. It is a path strewn with bloody thorns, one that drags its perpetrators to Hellfire. How often has falsehood been upheld as truth, true rights dismissed, and harm inflicted such that it affects the lives, wealth and honour of others.

In light of this, it has been authentically reported that the Prophet ( May Allah’s Salah and Salam be upon him) said; “Your lives, wealth, and honour are inviolable to one another just as the sanctity of this day of yours, in this month of yours in this land of yours.

Also, Abu Hurayrah (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ( May Allah’s Salah and Salam be upon him) said; “Do you know which person is bankrupt?” They replied, “Messenger of Allah, the bankrupt person among us is someone who has no money or property.” The Messenger of Allah then said, “The bankrupt person among my Ummah is the one who will come forth on the Day of Resurrection with their prayers, fasting, and charity. However, they will come forth having reviled certain people, wrongfully accused others, usurped the property of others, shed the blood of others, and beaten others. They will be seated and each victim will take some of their righteous deeds and retribution. If their righteous deeds finish before all their wrongdoings has been settled, the sins of the victims will be taken and cast upon them, then they will be cast into the Hellfire.” This was reported by Muslim.

Such a servant comes forth with prayer, charity, and fasting, in other words, having fulfilled the pillars of Islam - and with good deeds as vast as mountains; believing this good deeds will save them, yet they also come burdened with injustices committed against other servants of Allah that ultimately lead them to the Hellfire. Notice that sins such as the consumption of alcohol are not mentioned here, despite the fact that it is a grave and major sin. Its perpetrator remains under Allah’s Will whether He will forgive them or punish them.

Personal Rights.

However, injustices connected with the rights of people are of a different nature, they must be repaid and rectified.

“A register from which Allah forgives nothing and that is Shirk;

A register from which Allah leaves nothing unaccounted for and that is injustices people committed against one another; and

A register which Allah does not greatly concern Himself with, and that is the injustice a servant commits against themselves, between them and their Lord.

O oppressor, who has no helper except the All-Aware, therefore do not be deceived by respite. Soon you will die and Allah will judge between you both with the wisdom of the truth, not through deviation, manipulation or strategies.

Brothers and sisters in Iman, the noble Prophet (May Allah’s Salah and Salam be upon him) has indeed commanded us to free ourselves from injustice whilst we are still in this worldly life, before having to stand before the Lord of all creation. Therefore, O servants of Allah, be cautious and wary of transgressing against the rights of others and causing them harm. Seek pardon from everyone whose rights you have disregarded before a day when no dinar nor dirham will be of any benefit for verily, this matter is severely dangerous.

We will proceed to come before the Recompenser on the Day of Judgement, when all disputes will be gathered before Allah. Indeed, the Prophet ( May Allah’s Salah and Salam be upon him) - whose supplication is answered. And never rejected -  invoked Allah’s mercy for those who hasten to absolve themselves of wrongdoing against another person, lest the good deeds be taken from them on the Day of Resurrection.

It is sufficient as a means of repulsion and a deterrent for oppressors that injustice has been associated with kufr in the Qur’an.

It is incumbent upon the perpetrator of these acts to seek pardon and absolution before a day where no dinar nor dirham will be of any benefit.

I say this much and I beseech Allah to forgive myself, you and all Muslims from every sin. Therefore, seek His forgiveness and repent to Him for verily He is Oft-Forbearing, Oft-Forgiving.

Second Part

All praise is due to Allah, Who perfected and made clear the legislations of Islam, thereby bringing happiness to our Ummah in both its religious and worldly affairs. I eat witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah Alone, without any partner. I further bear witness that our Prophet Muhammad is Allah’s worshing servant and Messenger. May Allah’s Salah, Salam, and blessings be upon him - the best of those who purified souls and revived them through Iman, and upon his Family and Companions, those from the Ummah who observed the most Taqwa and possessed the purest and most religious hearts; and upon all those who follow them in righteousness until the Day of Resurrection.

O servants of Allah, observe Taqwa of Allah as HE rightfully deserves, and strive to purify your souls morning and evening. Know that the best of speech is the Book of Allah, the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (May Allah’s Salah and Salam be upon him), and every newly invented matter is misguidance.

MONTH OF RAJAB

O people of Iman, as we enter the beginning of the sacred month of Rajab, hold firmly to the guidance of your Prophet ( May Allah’s Salah and Salam be upon him) and to the path of the best and most virtuous generations.

Beware of innovations and newly invented matters in Islam and know that there is nothing authentically established from the Prophet (May Allah’s Salah and Salam be upon him) that specifies any particular virtue in this month. All reports circulated regarding particular righteous deeds being recommended in this month are weak or fabricated as confirmed by the people of knowledge who have checked its authenticity.

PALESTINE CAUSE

Brothers and sisters in Iman, in this period towards the end of time widespread injustices are spread. It is what some weak and downtrodden people live through of collective oppression, such as the Palestinian people and those living around Al-Masjid al-Aqsa. They suffer from being under siege, facing destruction; displacement, killing, forced migration, and abuse at the hands of the brutal Zionist enemy - especially as the harsh winter season has set upon them, biting them with its bitter cold. We ask Allah to lift the oppression from the weak and downtrodden everywhere and to envelop them in the warm of HIS Kindness and Mercy.

Here, we commend the firm and honourable stance of our beloved country - the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia - towards the Palestinian cause and the sacred Islamic sites. May Allah protect the Kingdom and the Muslim lands all over the world from the east to the west from every harm and evil; thwart the plots of the plotters and the aggression of the aggressors. Indeed, HE is All-Hearing, One Who responds supplications.

In conclusion, invoke Allah - May Allah have mercy upon you all in private and in open - to grant Salah and Salam to the best of all creation, and the most noble of them in honour and rank - our Prophet Muhammad ibn Abdullah Al-Quraishi al-Hashemite - the most generous as the Supreme Master; the Most Generous, the Exalted has commanded you to do so when the Most Majestic stated, ((Indeed, Allah grants His Salah to the Prophet, and angels invoke Allah’s Salah and Salam to him.))

O people of Iman, invoke Allah to grant Salah to him and to grant him Salam as well. O Allah, send Salam upon Your Worshipping servant and Messenger - and upon the family of Muhammad, just as You sent Salam upon Ibrahim and upon the Family of Ibrahim. You are indeed Most-Praiseworthy, Most Glorious. And also, bless Muhammad, and the family of Muhammad, just as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. You are indeed Most Praiseworthy; Most Glorious.

O Allah, be pleased with his four rightly-guided successors the leaders who devoted all worship to Allah alone and we people of exalted rank and great honour; Al-Siddiq Abu Bakr; Al-Faruq Omar; Osman Al-Nurain and Ali and also be pleased his family and Companions as well as those who followed their path downwards.
